In a lovely old weatherboard house above a popular little restaurant, this 'B&B' offers a homestyle atmosphere and good-value budget rooms. Situated on a soi parallel to Khao San Road, the position is enviable and the welcome is warm.

The Tuptim claims to be 'true Thai' style but with all that cream paint and Brunswick-green lattice you could be forgiven for thinking it's Victoriana. With pale green walls and wooden floors, the rooms are plain and unassuming but pleasant. The windows don't exactly afford stellar views but they give the place a light and airy feel. There are shared but gender-segregated bathrooms, simple but well-scrubbed with hot water showers. While the accommodation is essentially quite basic this guesthouse has sweet country homestay feel. It's nice just being in a building made out of wood rather than concrete slabs. Room rates include a toast-and-coffee breakfast, which you can enjoy at the lovely restaurant with its floral cloths and potted plants. While rooms are bland the overall effect is pretty and it's a peaceful place to park yourself.
