Lonely Planet Review

Quotes If you like cheesy kitsch this place just away from the centre of the Pham Ngu Lao backpacking area is an absolute fondue banquet. Rooms might not be the best value you'll find in Saigon, but cheese can be pretty pricey in Asia...

At Bi Saigon you get the feel they designed this place with couples in mind. The spacious and heavily scented rooms come complete with romantic pipe music (yes, there is a volume control to switch it off), nude portraits above the beds, floral bed spreads and large plaster ceiling motifs. In some more expensive rooms there are circular sitting-room chairs that look as if they have been beamed straight out of the '80s. Then there are the bathrooms that have a distinctly Asian appearance from outside. But don't worry, they are adequately large and functional inside. Rooms at the front have balconies while those at the rear are darker (some are windowless) but have a three-quarter size bathtub as compensation. The best room has a small outdoor terrace with a sauna, spa and recliner lounge and plenty of potted plants. Be warned, though, you have to climb many stairs to reach it.

Author Tip

The Le Table de Saigon restaurant on the ground floor serves great Vietnamese food and watching it being made is half the fun. The open kitchen is on the opposite side of the lane, so take a seat near to the front. It's an easy walk or cyclo ride from here to Saigon's major attractions, including the Reunification Palace and War Remnants Museum, or into the boutiques and restaurants of Dong Khoi.
