Lonely Planet Review
In the heart of central Ho Chi Min City's diplomatic district the Sofitel is a short walk to the Opera House and also offers some of the best value among the city's top end lodgings.
While the rooms may not be as flash as those in, say, the Park Hyatt, they're more than adequate when you consider the location and prices available on their regular promotions. Superior rooms are a decent size, with a pale green theme, modern art and a natty bedside control panel. Club rooms are similar but more stylish, while suites have kitchenettes and offer huge bathrooms and the best of the views. Executives, however, will likely be disappointed by the puny style-over-substance desks. Interestingly for a hotel popular for conferences, business facilities are less than impressive - the club lounge and Internet services are wanting. However, the 10th-floor pool has great views and the lobby with its clean lines and horizontal, spiral stacked timbers is impressive.

Author Tip
There is a lot of history around here: the History Museum is a short walk northeast, just past the Military Museum. Head in the other direction and you'll pass the US Consulate (the more infamous old US Embassy was knocked down to make way for this) on the way to the immense Reunification Palace, which is virtually unchanged since the tanks rolled through the gates in 1975.
