One of several glass, concrete and steel business hotels in the business district, the Sevilla Palace takes up practically an entire city block. While it's neither quaint nor cutting edge, it is extremely comfortable and well-run with unusually cordial service, as well as a pretty amazing rooftop pool deck.

While it won't win any awards for originality, this monolith is built for comfort, with over 400 air-conditioned rooms featuring queen-sized beds and cheery abstract art. A sofa-table arrangement by the window can be a nice perch for reading or lounging, whether your room faces grand Paseo de la Reforma or the inner garden. Soaring up through the central atrium in a transparent vertigo-inducing elevator, you reach the 23rd floor, with a blue swimming pool beneath a protective canopy and a thatched palapa for cocktails. The chance to lounge away the afternoon upon this blissful aerie with the whole Valley of Mexico spreading out below raises this standard business hotel a few notches to the 'extraordinary' category. As evening sets in, ride back down to the 10th-floor mezzanine for the 360-degree piano bar experience.
