Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Scarcely had this sleek, modern establishment opened its glass doors in 2006 when the Washington Post acclaimed it as one of the world's top dozen hostels. It's easy to see why. With brushed-steel furniture, neutral bedroom tones, sealed concrete floors and pine-green or brick-red bathrooms, it exudes genuine style.

However, Czech Inn's success goes beyond its Mambo-like artwork and otherwise pleasant appearance. Indeed, it resembles little sister hotel Miss Sophie's, but its popular bar and spacious reception make it more sociable. The friendly service puts many of Prague's trendy boutique hotels to shame and nearly everything is geared to travellers' convenience. Double-glazed windows, black-out curtains, an Internet cafe, additional free wi-fi and international newspapers are thoughtfully provided. Plus there's a buffet breakfast, available to both guests and non-guests, which we've crossed town for. It's strange then that there's been such a slip-up with the communal 'rainfall' showers, which are operated via an impractical button system. Overall though, this proves a minor inconvenience, and can be avoided in the en suite apartments.

Author Tip

Initially, Czech Inn's location might not seem especially convenient with the bookshop/cafe Shakespeare & Sons the only major venue nearby. However, travelling around compact Prague is a hassle-free experience and you quickly realise that a short (10-20min) walk takes you to cafes like Kavárna Kaaba and restaurants like Ambiente, Aromi and Tiger Tiger in the heart of Vinohrady. The more energetic can easily hike to the popular beer garden in Riegrovy Sady park.
