Quotes This clean and friendly hostel has just 35 beds in an old apartment building at the back of the Baroque Cathedral of Sts Cyril and Methodius. It's a quiet place, but the location is very central and guests have use of a shared kitchen.

Tucked away on a quiet back lane behind Prague's imposing Orthodox Cathedral, you'd barely know this little hostel was here at all. Discretion and security are bywords, and you'll need to ring the doorbell to get in. Dorms, accommodating between four and nine beds, are pretty much what you would expect: simple, spartan affairs, but perfectly clean. Showers and toilets are shared. Some of the walls are brightened up with graffiti, courtesy of the hostel's international backpacking clientele, and the relatively small size of the place means that the atmosphere is friendly, informal and sociable, although communal areas are limited. There's a laundry service if you're starting to feel a bit grubby, and free Internet access. A big breakfast is included in the price.

You have the advantage here of being in a quiet yet still central position. The cathedral in front of the hostel holds a special place in Czech history, as the final hiding place of the men who assassinated Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich in 1942. The bullet-scarred crypt is now a museum. The Dancing Building and the river are two minutes westwards, while Charles Sq park is five minutes east.
