Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The St George's carefully restored 18th-century edifice is tucked down a little side-street south of Wenceslas Sq. The 56 rooms are neat and boast the usual three-star mod-cons, while the sauna, Jacuzzi and mini gym are nice extra touches.

For this class of hotel, in what is, after all, a fairly central location, the rates are reasonable enough. Outwardly it's rather grand - a large, honey-coloured Baroque block on the corner of Tyrsova and Sokolska, and the theme is continued in the plush public areas with their paintings and stripey furniture. Overall, the hotel has a pleasantly sedate atmosphere. The rooms themselves, all with red and brown furnishings, are more generic - while they're bright, clean and of a decent standard, there's not much individual character here. However, if all you want is some standard three-star comfort and a soft bed, St George has it. There's a big jacuzzi to relax in and some gym equipment if you're feeling a bit more active.

How To Get There

Registered taxis are available from a stand located in front of the Arrivals hall. Minibus stands are also located in front of the Arrivals hall. Bus service 119 runs from the airport to Dejvická, where one can get the Metro green line to Muzeum Station, then change for I.P. Pavlova, 200 metres from the hotel. Prague's compact historic centre is best explored on foot. Cheap public transportation is available in the shape of metro, bus, tram or the funicular railway. You can get tickets, directions, schedules and multi-lingual public transport system maps at information offices located in five major metro stations, including Muzeum and Mustek. A ticket (jízdenka) can be used interchangeably on all forms of transport.

Author Tip

St George stands on a narrow street squeezed between two very busy roads; picture-postcard Prague it ain't, but a 5min walk north brings you to Jecná where you'll find the metro station and several bars and restaurants. The snazzy microbrewery and restaurant of Pivovarský Dum, another 5min west, is worth the walk for its unique beers alone.
