Quotes With a multitude of sleeping options, Des Artistes has a room for everyone. Hostel-goers can choose between plush, carpeted rooms near the 5th-floor reception or more basic dorms on the 2nd floor. On the intervening floors, hotel rooms feature polished wood and modern trappings such as satellite TV and modem points.

This Termini district stalwart is a slick operation. All day long the tiny lift rattles up to the 5th floor where English-speaking staff direct guests to their rooms. This usually involves a second elevator trip and might mean a traipse to a second building. Backpackers on a budget usually end up three stories below in the four- to six-bed dorms (18 to 35 year olds only). Families usually go for the four-, five- or six-person rooms. Room decor varies according to how much you're paying, but the overall look is classic with period furniture and plenty of gilt-framed pictures. Communal areas are cramped but you can grab a breath of fresh air, or a quick fag, on the leafy rooftop terrace.

How To Get There

From Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO):
Distance to Hotel des Artistes is 26 kilometres, approximately 45 minutes' drive.

Getting there. The Leonardo Express runs between the airport and the central Termini train station, 500 metres from the hotel, every 30 minutes. The journey time is about 35 minutes and single tickets cost 9.50 EUR. The Terravision shuttle bus runs between the airport and Termini station. Taxis to the city centre cost about 60 EUR, and taking a metered licensed taxi is advised. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. The hotel is on Via Villafranca. Rome's historic city centre is easy to explore on foot, as many attractions are located close together. The city has an efficient public transport system, including trams, buses, suburban trains, and metro (underground). Tickets can be purchased from tobacconists and ATAC ticket machines, and should be bought prior to boarding. Single tickets cost 1 EUR, and are valid for 75 minutes, covering one metro trip and unlimited bus travel. Driving in the city centre is not advised for visitors but the hotel offers parking nearby.

Driving directions.From Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO):
Follow signs for Roma.
Take the exit for Christophe Colombo/Roma Centro.
Carry on straight as far as Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano.
Drive down Via Merulana to Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica.
Turn right for Via Villafranca.

Dalla Stazione Termini: Esci dalla stazione dalla parte di Via Marsala, l'uscita laterale vicina al binario n° 1, gira subito a sinistra. Adesso sei su Via Marsala. Prendi la prima strada a destra, Via Vicenza. Vai avanti per 5 isolati, poi gira a sinistra su Via Villafranca. Dall'Aeroporto di Fiumicino: All'interno dell'aeroporto c'è una stazione dei treni con un treno diretto che va alla stazione Termini. Questo treno parte ogni 30 minuti dalle 6:37 alle 23:37. Ci vogliono circa 35 minuti. Il biglietto costa € 9.50 a persona. Se arrivi molto tardi la sera o molto presto la mattina puoi usufruire del servizio navetta Cotral a 5 € a persona. Questo autobus parte alle 1:15, 2:15, 3:30 e 5:00 per la stazione Termini. Dall'Aeroporto di Ciampino: Ciampino è un aeroporto piccolo. I voli Ryanair e Easy Jet arrivano qui. Il modo più veloce per arrivare al centro di Roma è con il servizio autobus della Terravision.
