Minimalist and Busy
Lonely Planet Review
A beacon of industrial cool, the Radisson is popular with business travellers and design-conscious customers. Its stark minimalist look and sci-fi decor is not for everyone, and its railtrack location will put some people off, but if you can handle glass walls, modular furniture and high tech gadgetry, you'll enjoy it here.
When it opened in 2002, the Hotel Es, as it was then called, caused a sensation. A cutting-edge design hotel in the uncool Termini area, it was a first. Since then, the hotel has changed hands and the style police have moved on. However, it still makes quite an impression, starting with the vast, light-filled polychromatic lobby and tubular reception desk. Light is also a feature in the rooms, which have windows for walls and an absolute minimum of furniture. En-suite facilities will excite some and dismay others - showers are separated from the sleeping area by nothing more than a curtain in standard rooms and a glass partition in superior rooms. Not surprisingly, mod cons are incorporated throughout. In the evening head up to the rooftop for a cocktail around the sexy 20m swimming pool. There are 14 rooms for disabled travellers.

Join the aperitif set at the hotel's rooftop Zest bar before trooping over to San Lorenzo for a gourmet vegetarian dinner at Arancia Blue (tel: 06 445 41 05; Via dei Latini 55-65) and later jazz at La Palma (tel: 06 435 99 029; Via Giuseppe Mirri 35), a club down Via Tiburtina.
